BSCI is an industry-independent organisation that monitors and carries out research and inspections with regard to chain responsibility. BSCI supports retailers, the industry and for importers that want to improve social standards in their chains.

Avec has signed the Code of Conduct developed by BSCI, which contains guidelines that suppliers must comply with, a declaration that suppliers must sign and a step-by-step plan they can use in order to achieve the code.

These are the basic principles of the BSCI Code of Conduct in brief:

• Ban on Child Labour
• Ban on Forced Labour
• Ban on discrimination of employees
• Freedom of Association and the right to collective employment negotiations
• Payment of a liveable wage
• Safe and healthy working conditions
• Workers have a legal employment contract
• Overtime is done on a voluntary basis
• Weekly working hours do not exceed 48 hours regular and 12 hours overtime
